PALO ALTO, CA — The city of Palo Alto announced that its curfew has ended after the city manager issued an order terminating it as of 5 a.m. Thursday.
The curfew from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day was imposed on Tuesday amid widespread looting and vandalism that followed police brutality demonstrations around the Bay Area.
The curfew initially had an expiration date of June 11 but had wording in it to provide flexibility to cut it short or extend it if necessary.

"This is an unprecedented time in our community's history and imposing a curfew was a significant step to ensure the safety of our community and businesses," City Manager Ed Shikada said.
Many Bay Area cities and counties issued curfews after looters targeted businesses following protests and marches prompted by the death of unarmed black man George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody on Memorial Day.
