Palo Alto to Recognize 5 Community Volunteers for Emergency Preparedness Activities

The 1st 100 attendees get a free gift at the Palo Alto Office of Emergency Services annual Community Partnership Awards Ceremony on Jan. 26.

PALO ALTO, CA -- The Palo Alto Office of Emergency Services hosts its seventh annual Community Partnership Awards Ceremony, featuring a keynote speaker and reception, from 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26 in the City Council Chambers at Palo Alto City Hall, 250 Hamilton Ave.

The public's invited to attend the free event, which kicks off with a reception. The city says the first 100 attendees will receive a free gift.

During the ceremonies, five people will be formally recognized for helping ensure that the community is safer and better prepared for emergencies. Community Partnership Awards are to be awarded to the following recipients:

  • Ken Joye, Neighborhood Preparedness Coordinator (NPC)
  • Jack Pines: ARES/RACES
  • David Rost, CERT Trainer
  • Sandra Slater: Cool City Challenge / Cool Block Program
  • Ramsey Shuayto: Stanford Real Estate

Palo Alto Mayor Greg Scharff is expected to open the event, followed by a keynote presentation on cyberterrorism by FBI Supervisory Agent Elvis Chan. City Manager Jim Keene will provide closing remarks.

The event is being emceed by Director of Emergency Services Ken Dueker, starting with the welcome reception at 6:45 p.m.
