Updated: Palo Alto Schools End Lockdown, Police Catch Suspect

Officers have located suspect who ran from officers; area schools no longer on lockdown.

UPDATE 12:08 PM - Palo Alto Police have arrested a suspect who caused the lockdown of six area schools late this morning.

According to the Department, the lockdown has now been lifted for the schools, allowing access in and out of the areas.

Police say the officers responded about 11:45 a.m. to reports of a suspicious person in the area. The suspect, whom police say is known to have warrants, ran from officers.

Police were able to catch up with the suspect in the 3900 block of El Camino Real and arrest him.

PALO ALTO - Police in Palo Alto are searching for a suspect who ran from officers in the 3900 block of El Camino Real according to several tweets from the department in the last few minutes.

A lockdown is in effect at several local schools.

Specific tweets:

“Area schools affected include JLS, Hoover, Fairmeadow, Greendell, Keys, & Achieve. Students locked in rooms, but instruction is continuing.

“Suspect has outstanding warrants, and is a white male in his 20s, blue flannel shirt over white t-shirt. Call 9-1-1 if seen in area.

“There is a media helicopter in the area to cover this incident.
