📰 News we're reading

• Palo Alto breaks ground on new Fire Station 4 Replacement Project (publicceo.com) — Palo Alto has officially broken ground on a new, $18.2 million Fire Station 4 that will be seismically resilient and better equipped to serve growing neighborhoods. Funded by a local hotel tax increase and state earmark, the station will replace the existing facility on its current site and is expected to open in summer 2027, with crews operating temporarily from Cubberley Community Center meanwhile.

• Google's Founders Appear to Be Cutting California Ties (newser.com) — Palo Alto residents may note that Larry Page still keeps a home in the city even as he shifts major real-estate and business interests from California to Florida and other locales. The moves come amid a proposed California one-time 5% tax on billionaire assets, which has some ultra-wealthy Bay Area residents accelerating relocations and restructuring their holdings.
