📰 News we're reading

• Survey shows little appetite for big changes at Cubberley (paloaltoonline.com) — Palo Alto officials just learned that residents strongly favor basic safety repairs at Cubberley Community Center but are reluctant to fund a major rebuild. A new survey shows support for a modest ballot measure and heavy skepticism toward higher annual costs or new taxes, meaning the city will likely scale back its vision and lean on private philanthropy to upgrade the Middlefield Road campus.

• Specific Depression Symptoms Are Linked to Increased Dementia Risk (everydayhealth.com) — A Stanford Medicine dementia expert in Palo Alto is highlighting new research that links certain midlife depression symptoms—like loss of confidence and trouble coping—to a higher risk of dementia decades later. While the long-running UK study isn’t definitive, it reinforces the importance of getting treatment for depression and building lifelong brain resilience through mentally engaging, socially connected activities.
