The grant is intended to improve dental services for vulnerable residents in the northern part of Santa Clara County.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The El Camino Healthcare District awarded Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Hospitals and Clinics with a $530,000 grant to improve dental services for vulnerable residents in the northern part of Santa Clara County.
The grant will support Valley Health Center Sunnyvale and Santa Clara Valley Dentalcare in promoting routine dental visits, according to a news release from the office of county Supervisor Joe Simitian, who chairs the county’s Health and Hospital Committee.
“This year’s grant builds upon years of collaboration between the County and El Camino to provide much needed health care in the North County,” Simitian said.

The El Camino Healthcare District has provided grants to SCVMC annually for 12 years. The grant is the second largest grant awarded by the El Camino Healthcare District, according to CEO Dan Woods.
Last fall, the county opened a dental clinic in Mountain View to serve lower income residents. Located at 2486 El Camino Real, the clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“When underserved individuals don’t have access to preventive dental services or referral coordination between dental and medical teams, they often experience worse health outcomes and more frequently seek out emergency room care when there are better options available,” Woods said.
