Stanford Blood Center Seeks Donations Amid 'Critical Shortage'

Several recent events have taken a toll on the local blood supply, prompting an urgent call for donors at the Stanford Blood Center.

STANFORD, CA — The Stanford Blood Center is urgently seeking blood and platelet donors of all blood types to replenish a diminished supply.

The blood center said two patients with massive bleeds required over 200 units of blood and platelets in recent days, and other stocks went to support an East Bay hospital treating patients from a fire. Another complicating factor, officials said, was a disruption in blood supply at secondary hospitals due to recent hurricanes in the Southeast.

Donors who come in through Oct. 14 will receive 1,000 bonus points that can be used at the Stanford Blood Center's loyalty store. Donors can book appointments online, and walk-ins are welcome from whole blood donations.
