Stanford Head Coach Parts Ways With University

STANFORD, CA — Stanford University's football team has parted ways with its head coach Troy Taylor, the team announced Tuesday.

Taylor was hired in December 2022 after serving as head coach for Sacramento State and finished with a 3-9 record in each of his two seasons with Stanford.

Andrew Luck, who played quarterback at Stanford and then in the National Football League before returning to the university recently to be general manager of the Cardinal football program, announced the coaching change in a statement Tuesday.

The statement mentioned "significant investigations in previous years related to Coach Taylor" but did not elaborate on the nature of the investigations.
"In consultation with university leadership I no longer believe that Coach Taylor is the right coach to lead our football program. Coach Taylor has been informed today and the change is effective immediately," Luck said.

He added, "A search for new coaching leadership in football has begun, and an acting coach may be named for the 2025 season. Our focus remains on supporting our student-athletes and ensuring they have the best possible experience on the field, in the classroom, and on campus with their peers."
