Stanford Women's Soccer Team Captain Dies In On-Campus Residence
Katie Meyer was a senior who was described as a "larger-than-life team player in all her pursuits."

PALO ALTO, CA — Katie Meyer, the captain of the Stanford women's soccer team, died in an on-campus residence on Tuesday, according to the university.
Stanford officials did not reveal a cause of death.
Meyer was a senior majoring in international relations and minoring in history. She was also a resident assistant and a goalie for the soccer team.

In 2019, Meyer made two crucial saves in the penalty shootout of the national championship game against North Carolina to help Stanford win its third title. Meyer was described as "extraordinarily committed to everything and everyone in her world," and a "larger-than-life team player in all her pursuits," Stanford Vice Provost for Student Affairs Susie Brubaker-Cole and Athletic Director Bernard Muir said in a statement.
The university said it was providing counseling and other resources to students.

"We can all help by checking in on friends and loved ones," Brubaker-Cole and Muir said. "Be caring to yourselves and one another. We will grieve this great loss together, and we will be here for each other."
