Suspect Accused Of Burglarizing Occupied Palo Alto Home

Wayne Darko, 35 of San Jose, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and an outstanding warrant for resisting arrest, police said.

PALO ALTO, CA — A suspect accused of burglarizing an occupied Palo Alto home was arrested Monday, police said.

Wayne Darko, 35 of San Jose, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and an outstanding Santa Cruz County warrant for resisting arrest, the Palo Alto Police Department said.

Officers at around 3:40 p.m. Monday responding to the report of an in-progress burglary in the 1100 block of Ramona Street detained Darko when they arrived on the scene, police said.

The victim, a man in his seventies, reported that he had interrupted an unknown man who was rifling through items in his living room, police said.

Officers earlier in the day responding to the report of an unknown person sleeping in their backyard in the 300 block of Kingsley Avenue cited and released Darko for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant out of Sunnyvale for vandalism, theft, trespass, and resisting arrest, police said.

Officers opted not to book him for the Santa Cruz County warrant (which was not eligible for citation release), police said.
