PALO ALTO, CA — Tesla’s new global engineering headquarters will be located in Palo Alto, CEO Elon Musk announced Wednesday.

They will be in the former Hewlett Packard headquarters, according to Musk, who was joined by Gov. Gavin Newsom to announce the development.

“This is, I think, a poetic transition from the company that founded Silicon Valley to Tesla,” Musk said in a video of the announcement posted on Twitter, which Musk also owns.

Newsom, who Musk noted was among the first to buy a Tesla Roadster many years ago, touted California’s status as the world’s fourth-largest economy.

“I couldn’t be more proud of California’s commitment to support Tesla,” Newsom said. “We say about our state the future happens here first. We’re America’s coming attraction.”
