PALOS VERDES, CA — Large amounts of non-native bamboo were removed Monday from Lunada Bay in Palos Verdes Estate as part of a lawsuit settlement involving a local surf gang, according to a news report by KTLA.

The local surfer gang, known as the Bay Boys, harassed non-locals attempting to access Lunada Bay for several decades.

A lawsuit brought forth against the city nearly a decade ago alleged police and city officials turned a blind eye to the harassment and encouraged the harassment to keep non-locals from using the area.

The settlement, which was agreed to in September, according to the Daily Breeze, demands the city of Palos Verdes Estate clean up the area and make it more welcoming to the public by 2026.

Aside from removing the bamboo with the help of a helicopter Monday, there are plans to add four benches, two welcome signs, two trail signs, an interpretive sign and a water fountain to the area in the future, the Daily Breeze reported.
