WILMINGTON, CA — A South Bay YMCA is looking for volunteers to sort donations and help create care packages to support immigrant families amidst ongoing ICE raids across Los Angeles County.
The Wilmington branch announced last week that it would be one of several YMCAs accepting donations to create care packages for anyone avoiding or fearing going out to public spaces due to the ongoing ICE raids.
The non-profit said in a post on social media that it would also help those affected by dropping off groceries or other essential products. The Wilmington YMCA is accepting items such as trash bags, shampoo, adult diapers, coffee, cleaning supplies, detergent and medicine.

Los Angeles resident Jasmin Salinas, 22, told Patch Saturday that her mom has been afraid of leaving her home for more than a week, even missing out on her son's graduation, in fear that immigration agents would raid it.
"It's personal," Salinas said while at a protest in Downtown Los Angeles. "My mom needs her freedom, and I can't believe we're taking it, we're taking it away from all these people's moms, dads, brothers, sisters."
