SAN PEDRO, CA — A pilot was forced to make an emergency landing in the ocean waters near the Port of Los Angeles Thursday afternoon, according to authorities.
Nobody was injured, and it's unclear what caused the pilot to make the unexpected landing, but the Los Angeles Fire Department said it happened around 2:36 p.m.
The plane, which was described by authorities as a "seaplane type aircraft," was floating when fire crews arrived to assist.

Nobody was injured, nor was there any fire or fuel spill, the LAFD said in a statement. The aircraft has since been towed away by a harbor patrol boat to a nearby dock, the LAFD said.
Modern seaplanes are light aircraft with floats underneath that allow pilots to come down in the ocean or on land, according to Hartzell Propeller, a company that makes advanced aircraft propeller design and manufacturing technology.
