PVPUSD Board Member Julie Hamill Announces Resignation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 28, 2025

PALOS VERDES, CA — Board Member Julie Hamill has resigned from the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District Board of Education to accept a role as a U.S. civil rights attorney. Her resignation is effective Friday, August 22.

At the board’s special meeting on Wednesday, August 27, members discussed the process for appointing a provisional board member to fill the vacancy. The appointment process will continue in the coming weeks.

Hamill was first elected to the board in 2022. During her time on the board, members oversaw the appointment of a new superintendent, the passage of the Measure SOS bond measure, and an update to the district’s goals and future priorities, among other significant achievements.

Through her three years of service, Hamill established herself as a dedicated leader who prioritized fiscal responsibility, encouraged family and community involvement, and kept students at the center of the board’s focus.

“We are grateful for Julie’s years of dedicated service to the PVPUSD Board of Education,” said Superintendent Dr. Devin Serrano. “Her thoughtful leadership and dedication to public education has left a lasting impact on our school district. We are appreciative of her time on the board and wish her the very best in her new role.”

The board will appoint a provisional member to serve until the next regularly scheduled election. The district will share information about the application process once details are finalized.
