San Pedro & Peninsula YMCA's Outdoor Recreation Program Opens

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA — There's never been a better time to step outside. And now registration is open for an afterschool recreational program for kids in kindergarten to fifth grade that's tailored specifically for outdoors.

Rancho Palos Verdes Recreation and Parks Department will partner with the San Pedro & Peninsula YMCA to offer a variety of outdoor recreation and enrichment options starting Sept. 14 through Dec. 18.

More outdoor classes are planned for the fall. The city plans to announce other offerings coming up.

"The City is committed to providing activities that promote health and wellness and serve the social and emotional needs of the community in a safe environment," the city said in a news release.

  • sports
  • games
  • arts and crafts
  • enrichment
  • science
  • technology
  • engineering
  • arts and math (STEAM)
  • recreation
  • service learning
  • nature appreciation

These activities are all designed to maintain physical distancing and follow Los Angeles County Department of Public Health protocols, according to the city.

The program runs Monday through Friday, except on days noted, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on school days only.

"The program is 100% outdoors and will not operate on days with inclement weather," the city said.
