Surf's Up! Big Waves and Dangerous Rip Currents Expected in Palos Verdes

A large west to northwest swell will bring elevated surf with 3 to 6 feet, forecasters say.

PALOS VERDES, CA - High surf and dangerous rip currents are expected through at least Friday night along Palos Verdes Peninsula and Southland beaches, according to the National Weather Service.

A large west to northwest swell will bring elevated surf with 3 to 6 feet, forecasters say.

The high surf and "dangerous rip currents" are the result of a large west-to-northwest swell spreading into coastal waters, according to an NWS statement.

"With more people in the water due to above-normal temperatures, these hazards pose an extra risk to life," it warned.

The surf should diminish somewhat Saturday morning but will build again Saturday night through Sunday, and again Tuesday night through Wednesday, the statement said.
