San Gabriel Valley City Makes NYT List Of Top Travel Destinations

The Times praised the city's natural beauty, walkable downtown and cultural draws, recommending it above popular international destinations.

The Southern California city was No. 40 on the newspaper’s list of “52 Places to Go in 2024,” just above Hurghada, Egypt, and below Brisbane, Australia. It was the only location in California to make the roundup.

The Times praised Pasadena’s natural beauty as well as its walkable downtown and cultural offerings, such as the Norton Simon Museum and Pasadena Playhouse.

“The San Gabriel Mountains preside over Pasadena like a sylvan crown, and hiking and biking trails framed by forested valleys and tumbling waterfalls abound in places like the Angeles National Forest,” the newspaper reported.
