Pasadena Police Officer Placed on Leave After Accusations of Misconduct
Pasadena Police Detective Kevin Okamoto will be placed on administrative leave after a judge declared a mistrial in a 2007 homicide case because of the detective's mishandling of evidence. Another detective was reassigned.
A Pasadena Police detective has been placed on administrative leave and another has been reassigned after a judge said the two officers were guilty of misconduct during a trial relating to a 2007 homicide.
Judge Larry Fidler declared a mistrial in the case against Jerrell Sanford after determining that Okamoto withheld evidence, according to the Pasadena Star-News.
The judge also said Detective William Broghamer improperly conducted an interview with a witness in the case. Broghamer was pulled from the department's homicide bureau and re-assigned Thursday, according to a Pasadena Police Department news release.

“The Pasadena Police Department has an obligation to swiftly and thoroughly investigate allegations of misconduct," said Police Chief Phillip Sanchez in a written statement. "The allegations that have been levied against these officers are serious and the Pasadena Police Department will conduct a thorough investigation."
