• Fire took temple, not congregation (columbian.com) — Pasadena’s Jewish community is marking one year since the Eaton Fire destroyed the historic Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center, including its sanctuary and preschool, yet members say their congregation is stronger than ever. Services have moved into borrowed spaces across town, where hundreds are gathering to mourn the loss, celebrate resilience, and look ahead to rebuilding together.

• Judge will resign after allegedly paying convicted doctor over $300K to work on workers' comp cases (abajournal.com) — A Pasadena-based physician with a prior fraud conviction is again in legal trouble, this time tied to a California judge who admitted to mail fraud over workers’ compensation medical reports. Federal prosecutors say the judge’s company paid the Pasadena doctor more than $300,000 for evaluations and legal reports despite his past conviction, and both men have now pleaded guilty in the scheme.
