• NID receives $615,000 CAL FIRE grant to protect critical water infrastructure from wildfire (yubanet.com) — Penn Valley’s main water supply is getting added wildfire protection thanks to a $615,000 CAL FIRE grant for Nevada Irrigation District’s South Yuba Canal Wildfire Defense Project. Work east of Nevada City will thin hazardous trees and create fuel breaks along the canal that delivers drinking and irrigation water, plus hydroelectric power support, to Penn Valley and other western Nevada County communities.
