PETALUMA, CA — Police in Petaluma arrested a man on suspicion of drunk and reckless driving as well as evading officers, the department said Sunday.

On Saturday night just after 11:30 p.m., officers were called to 905 East Washington Street on a report of a disturbance. By the time they arrived, police were told by people in the parking lot that the suspects had already left the scene.

Officers then heard a vehicle on Ellis Street rapidly accelerating and saw a dark blue BMW traveling southbound, the department said. The vehicle made a sudden turn, causing the driver to lose control and collide with a curb. As officers approached the vehicle on foot, the vehicle allegedly drove away at a high rate of speed.

Officers later located the car in the parking lot of the Ellis Street Apartments and detained the driver, 18-year-old Hector Reyes. The car's passenger, Sergio Mazariegos Reyes, 20, allegedly got out and took off on foot, but he was eventually located and taken into custody as well.

Police allege that Hector had been driving under the influence and he was booked into jail on suspicion of DUI, reckless driving, resisting or obstructing an officer, and driving on a suspended license.
