Home Slides Into Russian River In Forestville

Amid heavy rains, a mudslide caused the home to slide into the waters of the Russian River.

FORESTVILLE, CA —Evacuations were underway in Forestville after a home slid into the Russian River.

As an atmospheric river continued to dump heavy rain Tuesday on the North Bay and the Bay Area, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office received word at 12:30 p.m. of a mudslide near the intersection of Westside Road and Rio Vista Road.

As the mud slid, it took the home with it. Fortunately, the home was not occupied, sheriff's officials said.

The incident prompted localized evacuations of homes affected or potentially affected by the slide. As of 2 p.m., deputies and personnel from the Sonoma County Fire District were conducting the evacuations.

"Please obey road closure signs," the sheriff's office said. "Turn around, don’t drown! Stay safe, Sonoma County!"
