Man Arrested For Hate-Related Vandalism: Police

The man is accused of drawing racial slurs and Nazi symbols on someone's car.

PETALUMA, CA — A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the hate-related vandalism of a car in a public parking garage in downtown Petaluma, police said.

Corey Newman of Petaluma was taken into custody Wednesday during a traffic stop, police said in a press release Friday.

Officers received an online report documenting that the victim's vehicle was defaced with racial slurs, Nazi symbols and other drawings while parked between Dec. 1 and Dec. 9, police said.

After reviewing more than a week of surveillance footage from the parking garage, officers obtained an arrest warrant for Newman, police said.

He was subsequently booked into the Sonoma County Jail, accused of defacing property and commission of a hate crime, police said.
