Man Shoots Self After Leading Sonoma County Deputies On Chase: Sheriff

Deputies initially responded to reports of someone shooting at other people in Santa Rosa, a sheriff's spokesperson said.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A man shot himself Friday after leading Sonoma County sheriff's deputies on a chase through Santa Rosa, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office said.

Deputies responded at 11:28 a.m. Friday to reports of a person shooting at other people in the 3300 block of Santa Rosa Avenue, Deputy Rob Dillion said in a video news release.

Several witnesses provided a vehicle description and deputies found the truck. When deputies tried to pull over the truck, the driver started a pursuit, Dillion said.

The pursuit ended 5 miles away at Administration Drive and Ventura Avenue when deputies "pitted" the truck.

"The suspect shot himself when the truck came to a stop," Dillion said. "Deputies immediately provided medical aid and the suspect was taken to a hospital where he later died at approximately 11:56 a.m."

Police did not disclose the man's name.
