Man Wearing Speedo, Fur-Lined Boots Arrested For Loaded Weapon: Police

Officers responded to a report of a naked man at Steamer Landing Park and ended up arresting the man on a gun charge.

PETALUMA, CA — A man wearing only a black Speedo and fur-lined boots was arrested Saturday in Petaluma on suspicion of carrying a loaded gun in a public place, police said.

Around 3:50 p.m., the Petaluma Police Department received a report about a man walking naked through Steamer Landing Park. Officers were on the scene within a few minutes and contacted James Francis Johnson, 48, of Petaluma, standing next to a car wearing only a black speedo and fur-lined boots, police Sgt. Zilverio Rivera said.

Johnson was on local probation which allowed officers to search his person and his property. During the search, officers found a loaded, Smith & Wesson, .40-caliber handgun with a high-capacity magazine in the well.

As officers tried to place Johnson under arrest and secure him in handcuffs, he began to physically resist the officers' efforts, Rivera said.

After a brief struggle, he was handcuffed without further incident and was taken to Sonoma County jail on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in a public place; manufacture/sale/etc. of a large capacity magazine, obstruct/resist peace officer and violation of probation.
