Map: North McDowell Road Closed This Weekend At New SMART Station

A partial SMART system closure is also planned this weekend, with no trains running to or from the Sonoma County Aiport and Cotati stations.

PETALUMA, CA — North McDowell Boulevard will be closed this weekend from Corona Road to Southpoint Boulevard for reconstruction of the railroad crossing at N. McDowell.

The upgraded crossing is required for the new Petaluma North SMART station under construction at Corona Road and N. McDowell. In addition to the road closure, there is also a partial SMART system closure this weekend related to the Petaluma North SMART station.

Saturday and Sunday, there will be no trains running to and from the Sonoma County Airport Station and Cotati stations. Normal service is expected to resume Monday morning between the two stations. Service from all other stations between Downtown Petaluma and Larkspur will run on the normal weekend schedule.

The road closure is a bit longer; weather permitting, it starts at 10 p.m. Friday and continues until 5 a.m. Monday.

Residents and businesses will have access during the closure. A map shows the detour. Locals are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid delays during the weekend-long road closure.

The new station in north Petaluma is slated to open for passenger service in December 2024. For more information, visit SMART’s construction update page and subscribe for periodic updates.

SMART will also extend the bicycle and pedestrian pathway with a new segment connecting Southpoint Boulevard to Main Street in Penngrove, creating a continuous 4.25-mile pathway from Petaluma to Penngrove.
