PETALUMA, CA — The Petaluma Fire Department is hosting its first-ever High School Firefighter Career Camp on April 13.

The event at the Petaluma Fire Training Tower at Petaluma Fire Station No. 2, 1001 N. McDowell Blvd., provides hands-on experience and includes demonstrations and a presentation on preparing for a career in the fire service.

The Petaluma Fire Department created the program to increase diversity, encourage a local workforce and support its youth in this potential career path, Assistant Petaluma Fire Chief Chad Costa said in a news release. Because it is the department's first such event, it includes a limited number of high school seniors from public schools.
