Petaluma Meeting To Focus On North McDowell Blvd. Project

Got questions or concerns about the ongoing roadwork? A virtual community meeting is scheduled for next week.

PETALUMA, CA — The city of Petaluma is holding a community meeting Wednesday about the North McDowell Boulevard Project, which involves improvements along 2.2 miles of the roadway, from Sunrise Parkway to Old Redwood Highway.

Wednesday's meeting begins at 6 p.m. and is virtual. Community members can learn about the status of the project and upcoming work, discuss potential traffic impacts, ask questions and share input.

Crews began concrete work in January on sidewalks, curb ramps and some driveways. Next up is paving work, which is scheduled to begin this summer and is expected to continue through the fall.

Upon completion of the project, city officials said the community can expect to enjoy the following when traveling North McDowell Boulevard from Sunrise Parkway to Old Redwood Highway:

  • A safer, smoother roadway surface
  • Improved traffic flow and safety
  • Elements designed to reduce traffic speed
  • Enhanced sidewalks, curbs and pedestrian crossings
  • Upgraded bike lanes
  • Better access to transit

The project is being funded by Measure U Street Maintenance fees, Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation (RMRA) fees, water fees and Senate Bill-1 funds, with some utility fees that exist to compensate for damage done to streets due to placement and maintenance of sewer and water facilities.
