PETALUMA, CA —A Petaluma man was shot with a Taser stun gun and then arrested on suspicion of possession of a concealed knife after an officer spotted him jaywalking late Tuesday night, Petaluma police said. An officer detained David Haylett, 24, after he crossed the intersection in a crosswalk at Petaluma Boulevard South and D Street against a traffic signal around 11:30 p.m., acting police Sgt. Chris Ricci said.
Haylett refused to sit at a curb and allegedly became confrontational when two officers tried to handcuff him. He broke free of control holds and put his hands in his waistband, prompting officers to think he might have a concealed weapon, according to Ricci.
One of the officers shot Haylett with a Taser stun gun and he was handcuffed. The officers found an 8-inch fixed blade knife in a sheath under Haylett's clothing as well as suspected methamphetamine, Ricci said.
