Woman Armed With Knife On Highway 101 Threatens Police

A shelter-in-place alert Thursday afternoon escalated into a highway shutdown and arrest.

PETALUMA, CA — Parts of Northbound US-101 were shut down during the evening commute after a woman on the East Washington Avenue off-ramp threatened officers and refused to leave.

California Highway Patrol Santa Rosa Officers found the woman on the Northbound US-101 E. Washington Street off-ramp at about 3:08 p.m. today.

When officers approached her, she pulled out a knife and threatened them, according to a CHP spokesman.

Authorities issued a shelter-in-place order for the 200 block of South McDowell Boulevard.

Officers from the CHP, Petaluma Police Department, and the Petaluma SAFE team attempted to diffuse the situation. The woman did not respond to SAFE. A CHP Crisis negotiation team was called in.

Police arrested the woman, who was in custody Thursday evening.
