Petalumans Turn In Hundreds Of Pounds Of Unused Prescription Meds

Petaluma Police Department collected the unused medications in just a few hours during the annual DEA Drug Take-Back Day.

PETALUMA, CA — Hundreds of pounds of unused prescription medications were collected in Petaluma in the eighth Drug Enforcement Administration National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, police said. In just a few hours Oct. 28, numerous community members stopped by the Police Department to drop off unwanted or unused medication.

Across the country, people dropped off a record-setting 912,305 pounds of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs at more than 5,300 collection sites, police said.

In addition to the drug collection day, the Petaluma Police Department has partnered with the Ellis Creek Water Treatment Plant and the Safe Medicine Disposal Program to provide a drop-off location for daily use.
