Shopping Cart Fire Spreads To Petaluma Homeless Encampment

Man charged in shopping cart fire that threatened a nearby building as it spread to a homeless encampment.

PETALUMA, CA — Police arrested a suspected arsonist who allegedly started a fire by setting a shopping cart ablaze, which threatened a nearby building near Telephone Alley as the flames spread to the suspect’s encampment.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze before the flames could cause significant structural damage.

Guy Jefferson Bridgeman, 56, sustained minor burn injuries and was treated for his injuries. Bridgeman was arrested and charged with arson. Police said he was living in the encampment.

"We appreciate the prompt response and coordination of all involved personnel that helped bring this incident to a safe resolution," Petaluma police spokesman Lt. Matthew Parnow said.
