Hit-And-Run Causes Traffic Backup At Petaluma Freeway Overpass

The Petaluma Police Department said drivers should avoid the East Washington Street overpass.

PETALUMA, CA — Shortly before 2 p.m. Friday, a traffic advisory for the East Washington Street overpass in Petaluma was lifted by police.

The Petaluma Police Department sent an alert shortly before 10 a.m. Friday, stating there was traffic congestion at the overpass and that drivers should avoid it until further notice.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a traffic pole and lights at southbound U.S. Highway 101 and East Washington Street were damaged around 9:40 a.m. Friday in a hit-and-run collision.

The post and lights were on the ground and the intersection was on a four-way flash, causing traffic to back up, the CHP said.

A big rig was being sought in connection with the crash.

There were no injuries reported in the incident.

The traffic advisory was lifted by the Petaluma Police Department at 1:51 p.m. Friday.
