SONOMA COUNTY, CA — The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office has identified a truck driver who died in an accident at the county's Central Landfill near Petaluma on Friday as Ezekiel Jackson Sumner Jr., 60, of Paradise. The Rancho Adobe Fire Protection District responded to the incident around 6 p.m. Friday. It appears Sumner Jr. was struck by his truck. He was found outside the truck in a staging area on top of a compost pile, Fire Capt. Bill Adams said.

Sumner Jr. was working for a subcontractor of AshBritt Environmental, the company that is removing debris from the October wildfire sites in Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake counties for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the federal agency said this morning.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers directed all AshBritt crews to stand down Saturday to review safety procedures and conduct training, according to the agency.
