Celebrate Día De Los Libros, Día De Los Niños With Your Library

According to the American Library Association:

“El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day), commonly known as Día, is a celebration every day of children, families, and reading that culminates yearly on April 30. The celebration emphasizes the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.”

This celebration is a literacy initiative that was created in 1996 by award-winning children’s author, Pat Mora. Mora always believed children should have a special day in which they are celebrated. When she learned of the Mexican holiday El día del niño, she was inspired to create a celebration for children and bookjoy, the pleasure of enjoying time with books. Every April, libraries, schools, and early childhood centers across the country celebrate día with storytimes, festivities, and more.
