Contra Costa Panel Discusses Redistricting Results & Challenges

The Contra Costa County Library and the League of Women Voters, Diablo Valley and West Contra Costa chapters recently presented a program – Redistricting Results & Challenges. The panel included Professor Stephen Woolpert, Helen Hutchison, Russell Yee, and Kristin Nimmers.

Professor Woolpert holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Stanford University and has been teaching at Saint Mary's for the past 40 years, including 12 years as the Dean of Liberal Arts.

Helen Hutchison is a member of the League of Women Voters, Oakland and led the League’s work on redistricting.

Russell Yee was the Chair of the 14-member 2020 California Citizens Redistricting Commission.

Kristin Nimmers serves as a Policy and Campaign Manager with the California Black Census and Redistricting Hub and works with organizations across the state in the Bay Area, Central Valley, Sacramento, Stockton, and Los Angeles to engage in public advocacy, provide training, and help to coordinate civic engagement programs.

The program was moderated by Gail Murray, a previously elected member of the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Board of Directors and BART representative on the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Agency. Previously, she served as mayor and councilmember for the City of Walnut Creek.
