Deadly Crash Prompts Sig-Alert On I-80

Vehicles were diverted off the highway as traffic backed up for miles.

CROCKETT, CA — At least one person was killed in an early morning crash on Interstate Highway 80 in Contra Costa County, involving a big rig and multiple other vehicles, according to the California Highway Patrol.

All eastbound lanes of the freeway were blocked for several hours west of Pomona Street, with traffic being diverted to Cummings Skyway. At 7 a.m., traffic is backed up for miles.

The crash was reported just before 4 a.m. and was finally cleared, with all lanes open, around 8:30 a.m.
