East Bay Doctor Offers Alternative To Standard Type 2 Diabetes Treatment
Dr. Knapp explores new research that sees patients walking away from prescription drugs and insulin. [SPONSORED]

Dr. Raymond Knapp, DC, ACN of East Bay Chiropractic Health Center began his pursuit of an alternative to the standard Type 2 Diabetes treatment following the loss of his uncle, a man whose battle with the disease laid the foundation for the post-graduate studies that Knapp explored in an effort to help others with the progressive, degenerative disease.
Determined to learn all that he could, Knapp incorporated new scientific research that allows diabetic patients to walk away from prescription drugs and insulin, lose weight without exercise, increase energy levels and improve their overall quality of life.

Patch: Tell us about Type 2 Diabetes. What happens to the body when insulin levels are high?

Knapp: It is the body's inability to control blood sugar. After breathing, it may be the second most important function in the human body. When you lose the ability to control your blood sugars, your chances of complications — such as increased cholesterol, blood pressure, heart attack, blindness, stroke, cancer, kidney disease, Alzheimer’s and amputations — increases dramatically. This disease ( type 2 Diabetes) is reversible — and don’t let anyone tell you it's not!
Patch: East Bay Chiropractic Health Center offers a fresh, clinical approach for patients suffering from Type II Diabetes and hypothyroidism. How does it work?
Knapp: After extensive lab testing, we get to the source of the body’s dysfunction and work supporting the body’s ability to repair itself. The cause for one person’s Type 2 Diabetes is generally not the same cause as another’s. We want to get to the root of the problem rather than manage the symptoms.
Patch: How did your implementation of this clinical process come to be?
Knapp: A lot of education, hard work, persistence and passion. My desire to help Type 2 diabetics in my community drove me to a point where I had to take action.
Patch: How does the program distinguish itself from other treatment methods?
Knapp: We will learn why you are a diabetic rather than treating you as a diabetic. The current treatment model generally treats everyone the same. We follow the functional medicine approach and get to the source of the condition rather than treating the symptoms.
Patch: What inspired you to pursue the treatment of diabetes?
Knapp: My Uncle Ray, the guy I was named after, developed Type 2 Diabetes, and I watched him slowly deteriorate losing his vision, toes, and eventually, he was on kidney dialysis. Six years after starting the standard medical treatment plan, he died. If I knew then what I know now, he would likely still be alive.
Patch: What are some of the treatment program’s success stories?
Knapp: This is very rewarding as we see patients' blood sugar dropping and stabilizing, A1C [glycated hemoglobin] dropping to normal, losing weight without dieting, energy increases and their overall general health improving.
Patch: How can Patch readers be better listeners to their bodies?
Knapp: Type 2 Diabetes is a devastating disease that commonly lulls its victims to sleep and degrades health over time. There are many causes, including toxic environment, parasites, worms, hormone imbalance, pharmaceuticals, processed food, stress, poor eating habits and sugar — to name just a few. Patients need to understand that this disease is really not a blood sugar disease, but rather, blood sugar is a symptom of deeper problems.
Patch: How do you measure success, and what is your outlook for the future?
Knapp: We measure our success by seeing our patient’s health restored. Reducing or eliminating their prescriptions, their blood sugar below 100 and their A1C in the normal range. We actually had a patient come in and disclosed they were on 23 prescriptions!!! No wonder they felt so bad. Allowing our patient’s to take control of their health rather than letting their health control them.
Patch: How can Patch readers learn more about Dr. Knapp and whether they are a candidate for the center’s treatment program?
Knapp: Call Susan at (510) 779-2850 and register for a complimentary diabetes education dinner.
