PINOLE AND HERCULES, CA — As an atmospheric river continued to drench the Bay Area, a flood watch was issued Monday afternoon for the East Bay, the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area said.

The flood watch took effect at 4 p.m. Monday and was expected to remain in place until 10 p.m. Monday for the San Francisco Bay shoreline, the East Bay interior valleys, the East Bay hills and the Diablo Range, including the cities of Livermore, Concord, Pittsburg, Fremont, Pleasanton, Blackhawk, San Ramon, Antioch, Berkeley, San Francisco, Oakland, Walnut Creek and Hayward.

"Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible," the weather service said. "Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations."

Forecasters said a line of heavy rain was moving through the region, with the potential of producing periods of heavy rain through the early evening hours.

"Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks," the weather service said. "Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris. Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible."
