Hercules Man Killed In Go-Kart Crash

The 39-year-old leaves behind a son, according to a fundraiser for his funeral services.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A man killed Friday while riding a Go-Kart in Brentwood was identified by the Contra Costa County Coroner's Office as Eddy Betts, 39, of Hercules.

The fatal crash happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. Friday on Sellers Avenue just north of Sunset Road. Betts was driving alone in the Go-Kart and heading north on Sellers when he crossed the southbound lanes, left the roadway and crashed into a power pole, the California Highway Patrol said.

CHP and emergency personnel responded. Betts was rushed to a hospital, where he died from injuries suffered in the crash.

Betts's sister-in-law, Candice Gomez, wrote on GoFundMe that his girlfriend and son were in a car following him and came upon the crash.

"Eddy was ejected from the go-kart," Gomez wrote. "A beautiful soul, a bystander attempted to resuscitate until EMS arrived. He was pronounced immediately at Kaiser Antioch. We are raising money for services and for his son. Any help is appreciated."
