Pinole, Hercules Report Increases In Violent Crimes

Pinole police reported 91 violent crimes in 2012. That’s an increase from the 83 violent crimes reported in 2011.
The number of property crimes also increased from 556 in 2011 to 674 last year.
Hercules police reported 43 violent crimes in 2012. That was up from the 33 reported in 2011.

The number of property crimes there decreased from 312 in 2011 to 298 last year.
The numbers were released this week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which reported a nationwide increase of violent crimes and a decrease of property crimes after compiling crime data from 18,000 jurisdictions in 50 states.

The FBI's Uniform Crime Reports also included the number of police officers in the nation’s police departments.
Pinole has 1.4 sworn officers for every 1,000 residents while Hercules has 0.8 for every 1,000 people.
The East Bay average is 1.2 officers per 1,000 residents.
