Pinole Police Release Video Of Officer Shooting Homicide Suspect
Jeramy Dorsey, 25, is expected to live, according to the Pinole Police Department.

PINOLE, CA — The Pinole Police Department has released video of an officer-involved shooting that took place last month.
On July 8, police said Jeramy Dorsey, 25, of Oakland shot and killed his uncle, Surako Follings, at his home on Encina Avenue before fleeing the scene. Officers eventually located him. Gunfire was exchanged after Dorsey opened fire on them multiple times, the police department said.
"We are releasing the following critical incident video regarding the incident and officer-involved-shooting as part of our commitment to transparency in respect to department operations and community engagement," the department said in a statement.

The video includes body-worn camera videos, dispatch audio recordings of the call and radio traffic captured during the incident, as well as a map depicting the incident to provide context as to the setting and chronology of the incident, police said.
The video starts with the original 911 call. Around 1:10 p.m. that day, Pinole police dispatch were contacted by a caller in reference to a disturbance at a home in the 1100 block of Encina Avenue.

"Hi. My little nephew came over here and he has a gun and is trying to confront my husband," the caller is heard saying in the 911 call released by police.
The dispatcher immediately notifies police officers who proceed to the location as the dispatcher remains on the phone with the caller.
Approximately 90 seconds after contacting police, the nephew, ultimately identified as Dorsey, shoots the caller's husband, police said.
During the 911 call, the caller can be heard screaming, "Oh, my God!"
After shots are fired, the following exchange happens between the caller and the 911 dispatcher:
Dispatcher: "Ma'am, ma'am, what's going on?"
Caller: "I'm trying to shoot back, Jeramy get the f---k out of here!"
Dispatcher: "Ma'am, what's happening?" (A gunshot is heard in the background.)
Caller: "Hold on, I'm shooting his a--."
Dispatcher: "Ma'am, do you have any weapons?"
Caller: "Yes, I went in the house. He shot my husband!"
Dispatcher: "Did he shoot someone? Did he shoot your husband?"
Caller: "Yes, he shot him."
Dispatcher: "Okay, I need to get medical started. Hold on."
Dashcam video then shows officers racing to the scene of the shooting.
Police bodycam video shows Dorsey walking on the sidewalk of a road as officers get out of their vehicles with their guns drawn. Two officers can be seen commanding Dorsey to walk toward them with his hands up; however, he doesn't obey. Instead, Dorsey is seen running off.
The two officers get back into their vehicle and drive after him, the video shows. According to the police department, Dorsey runs back in the direction of the 911 caller's home. Another officer locates him on Encina Avenue. This is where the officer-involved shooting takes place.
As the officer exits his vehicle and before he has a chance to give any verbal commands, Dorsey immediately fires one shot at him, the department said. The officer, however, is not hit.
Dorsey then runs, police said. The officer follows him while giving repeated commands to drop his gun. Police said, however, that Dorsey does not comply and points his gun at the officer. The officer fires his gun and Dorsey drops to the ground.
According to police, Dorsey is seen on camera raising his right hand toward the officer while holding a gun before the officer discharges the final round.
"Hands up! Let me see 'em! Hands away from the gun! Do not reach for the gun," the officer can be heard repeatedly saying as he approaches Dorsey who is clearly injured.
On the bodycam video, a loud voice can be heard repeatedly off camera as the officer approaches Dorsey. Police said the voice belongs to a bystander who was screaming after he'd been stung by bees during his attempt to run away from the incident. He was not directly involved in the case, according to police.
As the bodycam video continues, the officer is seen handcuffing Dorsey on the ground and pats him down for any additional weapons. Dorsey has clearly been shot and appears to be in pain yet alert. A loaded handgun is next to him on the ground.
According to the police department, officers provide medical aid to Dorsey until paramedics arrived. He is expected to live, police said.
Dorsey has charged with murder, attempted murder of a police office, and assault with a gun for pointing a loaded handgun at another family member.
