Updated: Man's Body Found In Bay Point By Dive Team

The identity of a man whose body was recovered Thursday afternoon in unincorporated Bay Point by a dive team is now known.

UPDATE MONDAY 9:30AM-

BAY POINT - The man whose body was recovered from the Contra Costa Canal in unincorporated Bay Point on Thursday afternoon has been identified as 41-year-old Fernando Sierraacevedo, a Bay Point transient, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office says the cause of death is pending, waiting for toxicology tests.

BAY POINT - A man's body has been recovered this afternoon in unincorporated Bay Point by a dive team with the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.

The body was initially spotted at 11:30 a.m. today in a stretch of the Contra Costa Canal, sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said.

A dive team with the marine services unit of the sheriff's office has recovered the body, Lee said at about 2:45 p.m.

Lee was not immediately able to provide further details. The body is being transferred to the coroner's office for further investigation.
