2 Pleasanton Schools Named 'California Distinguished Schools'

The schools are two of 5 in the Tri-Valley and 293 in California to be recognized for academic excellence and a positive school climate.

PLEASANTON, CA — Pleasanton Middle School and Thomas S. Hart Middle School are two of 293 schools across the state and five in the Tri-Valley to be named as a 2024 California Distinguished School, the California Department of Education announced Thursday.

The CDE selected middle and high schools based on their performance on criteria indicated on 2023 Dashboard, which include academic excellence, ensuring a positive school climate, and closing the academic achievement gap.

In the Tri-Valley, the following schools were also recognized:

  • Pine Valley Middle School, San Ramon
  • Dublin High School, Dublin
  • Wells Middle School, Dublin

“It is my pleasure to honor and recognize these 293 secondary schools for their efforts to provide exemplary public education to all students. Excellent middle schools and high schools play a critical role in the life outcomes of our young people,” State Superintendent Tony Thurmond said in a statement. “This year’s California Distinguished Schools celebration provides us with an opportunity to recognize the hard work of our secondary educators and school staff who help our young adults discover passions and access college- and career-ready experiences that will propel them through life.”

California Distinguished Schools will be honored at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim in May, alongside 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools, 2023 Civic Learning Award Schools, and 2023 and 2024 California Exemplary Dual Enrollment Award Schools.
