Ace The Cat Retires From Pleasanton's Richert Lumber
Ace the Cat, a seven-year associate at Richert Lumber, has retired.

PLEASANTON, CA — The Mouse Extraordinaire has clocked out for the last time. Ace the Cat has retired after seven years at Pleasanton's Richert Lumber.
Ace joined the team in 2016 from the Valley Humane Society. He was a popular employee at Richerts, often seen hanging out in the Plumbing Showroom on his breaks.
But, under the official title of Mouse Extraordinaire, his real job was rodent management.

"We couldn’t keep up with the rodent problem in the yard, which is large and primarily outdoors,”owner and manager Matt Richert said. “We wanted professional help, but were opposed to traps and poisons."
That's when Ace came into the picture.

"The perfect solution was a deterrent, so we hired Ace the Cat. Between food and veterinary maintenance, Ace was an expensive fix, but he has been phenomenal in reducing the rodent population as well as serving as a great ambassador for our company," Richert said.
Ace moved to Sacramento in December along with another Richert associate, Dave Butts. They're enjoying their retirement basking in the sun and taking a lot of naps.
So, who will fill Aces' shoes? The shop returned to the humane society and decided to hire two new employees this time.
