Tri-Valley Protesters Honor Renee Good Killed In ICE Shooting, Demand Investigation: Report

The deadly ICE shooting of Renee Good in Minnesota prompted a Pleasanton vigil and demands for an investigation by local lawmakers.

PLEASANTON, CA — Candles, prayers, and songs of solidarity filled Delucchi Park in Pleasanton Wednesday night as more than 100 people gathered to mourn Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother of three killed in a shooting involving ICE agents in Minneapolis.

The vigil was organized by Indivisible Tri-Valley to demand accountability for what members described as state violence. The group is calling for a full investigation into the shooting that sparked national outcry against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency and the Trump administration's immigration enforcement policies.

At the Pleasanton vigil, members prayed and sang resistance and solidarity songs, ABC7 News reported. They carried signs and photographs of Good, who was shot trying to drive away from ICE agents during a demonstration.

ICE agents say she was blocking the street. Videos show an agent grabbing the driver's-side door handle, while the other agent stands in front of the car.

When she drives forward, the ICE agent in front of the car fired shots at her. Her vehicle rolled forward and then stopped with her behind the wheel.

“I think I had an initial thought of overwhelming sadness and despair… and anger,” Jennifer Murdock, of Pleasanton, told NBC during the vigil.

Organizers said they do not oppose immigration reform, but are raising concerns about ICE’s conduct and enforcement.

Indivisible Tri-Valley is urging East Bay congressional representatives to act and said more events are planned for the weekend, according to reports.

In Good's case, the Trump administration has said that she attacked, or tried to run over, ICE agents before the officer fired at her. State officials, however, have contradicted the allegation.

Donations to a GoFundMe campaign set up for the widow and children of Good raised more than $1.5 million.

The Pleasanton vigil followed a number of protests around the Bay Area. Hours after the shooting of Good, hundreds of protesters rallied in San Francisco outside ICE offices downtown, and later, a march was held in the city's Mission District. In Oakland, protesters gathered in the Fruitvale district, according to CBS.
