Gus The Horse Finds A New Home In Pleasanton
Gus is so well known in the community, there is a welcome party coming up to celebrate his new spot in town.

PLEASANTON, CA — Gus the horse has been part of the Pleasanton community for almost five decades.
His first home was perched outside of Christesen’s clothing and tack store in 1975. He greeted customers at the western-wear shop until 2021.
Now, the community figure finds himself down the street in a new home.

In February, Gus moved to the Museum on Main, following the end of an era as Christesen’s closed its doors.
“Gus has been very popular and it's really gratifying to see how many people have come up to see him since he's moved down to our front yard," Museum Curator Ken McLennan said.

In fact, he is such a hit in the community that the museum is throwing a welcome party for him.
The party will have games, crafts and of course photo opportunities with Gus.
“As popular as he has been, we felt a Main Street icon like Gus deserves a big welcome party,” McLennan said.
The museum will also honor Christesen’s and Rory Janes, the former owner of Gus and Pleasanton’s beloved store. Janes’ western outfitters store in downtown Livermore, Baughman’s, will have a promotional booth at the event.
The museum told Patch that Janes graciously donated Gus to the museum so that he could remain in the community.

Everyone knows that things inevitably change over time but one fact in Pleasanton remains - Gus the horse is a legend.
Gus’ welcome party is March 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the museum’s front lawn - 603 Main Street. Everyone in the community is invited to join.
