High Paws To 'Dray' - A Boxer Behind Winery & Valley Humane Event

Enjoy "Dray Day" Saturday - sipping Ruby Hill Winery's "Cuvée Dray"- at the animal rescue's adoption event in Pleasanton.

PLEASANTON, CA — Saturday at Rubino Estates Winery in Livermore Valley Wine Country is "Dray Day," an animal adoption event named for a certain boxer — Draymond, whose mug graces the labels of Ruby Hill Winery's Cuvée Dray wine.

A handcrafted, red blend, Cuvée Dray is a namesake tribute to the exuberant canine companion of Pleasanton-based Ruby Hill Winery's Eric Callahan. Since the vintage's inception in 2020, $10 of every bottle sold is donated to Valley Humane Society — an effort, which, to date, has generated more than $50,000 in donations to the animal rescue, according to organizers.

On Oct. 14, Rubino Estates on Vineyard Avenue in Pleasanton will partner with Ruby Hill Winery and Valley Humane to host the "Dray Day" pet adoption event.

Such joint endeavors boost Valley Humane Society’s ability to serve Tri-Valley's rescued cats and dogs, said Valley Humane President Melanie Sadek, adding that the organization relies on private donations for funding.

“People often assume a connection between the national groups and their smaller humane societies, but, in fact, Valley Humane Society is supported exclusively by our local community,” she said.

Those seeking to add a new furry member to their family can stop by Rubino Estates, at 1188 Vineyard Ave., 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Unfortunately, Draymond will not be in attendance at his big day ... but there will be plenty of other pups seeking forever homes.

Those interested in Ruby Hill Winery's Cuvée Dray wine can buy online here. Or visit the operation at 400 Vineyard Ave., Pleasanton, and maybe Dray will be "working" that day.
