Do you ever feel frustrated because back pain stops you from doing the things you love? Whether it’s taking a walk, gardening, or playing with your grandkids, back pain can truly diminish your quality of life.

Most people think back pain happens because of lifting something heavy or a specific injury, but for many, it creeps in slowly. What might start as a minor ache or soreness, can all of a sudden turn into severe, even crippling, pain.

When the pain reaches this point, even the simplest activities—like getting out of bed, doing your usual chores, or taking a short walk—become almost impossible. Suddenly, chronic back pain starts to control what you can and can’t do.

This is exactly what happened to our client, Eva. At 59, after years of working in an office and not staying as active as she would have liked, Eva had dealt with back pain for 10 years.

Initially, she thought her pain wasn’t serious. Since she is someone who has a “high pain tolerance,” she was used to just pushing through the pain over the years...

But over the past few months, the pain got much worse.

Eva was struggling just to get out of bed each morning, she couldn’t do simple house chores without constant pain, and she couldn’t even enjoy a nice evening walk with her husband without her back locking up into painful spasms and tightness.

The constant pain not only left her physically drained but also caused her to be worried about losing her independence and mobility…

“Doctors told me it was because of my age and offered me pills and injections, but I refused.” she explained.

“I’m not trying to do anything crazy like run a marathon—I just want to be able to go for a nice, long walk and do my everyday chores without my lower back hurting.”

The Frustration of Common Advice

Many people, like Eva, are told that back pain is something they just have to “live with” as they get older. Doctors may offer pills, injections, or surgery as solutions, but these only mask the pain—they don’t fix the problem.

But the truth is, there are millions of people over the age of 55 who are living pain-free, even after being told their pain is just part of aging.

Yes, your body will change as you get older, but that doesn’t mean you’re doomed to live with chronic back pain forever.

And there are in fact, MANY safe and natural ways to get back to living a normal, active life—without relying on pills or surgery.

Treating the Root Cause, Not Just the Symptoms

So, how DO you get there? How can you get rid of back pain, despite the fact that you’re getting older? What ARE the natural solutions to get out of pain?

For Eva, what frustrated her even more was the fact that she had already tried ‘alternative therapies’ like physical therapy, chiropractic, and acupuncture…

And while sometimes she would experience temporary relief, her pain would just come back within a couple of days.

Now, the reason why this was happening was because she was making the very honest, and common mistake of treating the symptoms of her back pain, instead of treating the real underlying ROOT cause.

And in Eva’s case, we discovered, even though her PAIN was in her lower back, the REAL SOURCE of her pain came from her hips.

The Hidden Solution: Restoring the Foundation

What most people don’t realize is that the hips are the foundation for your spine. Just like a building needs a strong foundation to stand tall, your back needs balanced, strong, but also flexible hips to stay healthy. When that foundation is weak, or out of balance, your back suffers.

Like many, Eva tried exercises to “strengthen her core” and “stretch her back”, but the pain never fully went away. This is because these treatments are designed to fix problems in her BACK…

But the reason why these treatments did not help Eva is because her REAL issue wasn’t just in her back—it was in her hips.

Years of sitting at a desk had weakened her hip muscles and also made them very tight and stiff. This caused her lower back to be forced to work overtime, making her back muscles constantly tight, sore, and overworked.

But the problem was, since Eva didn’t feel much pain in her hips, she never focused on treating them!

However, once we identified that Eva’s hip muscles were the hidden cause of her back pain, our approach was to ONLY focus on treating the problems in her HIPS, and to also leave her back ALONE…

Examples of the treatments we performed included:

  • Deep tissue massage and “trigger point” therapy designed to quickly get rid of “muscle knots” and tension in the muscles in the FRONT of her hips
  • A targeted strength and endurance program designed to re-activate and strengthen her weak GLUTE muscles to take pressure OFF her lower back while standing and walking
  • Teaching her our “neuromuscular” stretching techniques that helped reverse YEARS of hip tightness within just a couple of weeks (this approach is known to work MUCH faster and create better long-term results than traditional stretching methods)

Within just a few weeks of implementing these very simple treatments that addressed her ROOT causes, Eva started to notice a real difference!

She noticed her back wasn’t nearly as tight. She could already walk longer without needing to sit and rest. Over time, she was able to wake up without pain and move through her day with confidence.

And then, within just 10 weeks of doing very simple stretches and exercises, her back pain had all but disappeared!

Her muscle spasms were pretty much gone, she wasn’t waking up sore or stiff in the morning anymore…

And more importantly, since the pain was finally gone, she was ALL the way back to:

  • Being able to go on long walks (without needing to sit down, or lie down and rest
  • She was back to being able to do ALL of her normal house chores without worrying about her back going out on her
  • And she is now also able to be very active and involved within the lives of her grandchildren, being able to get on and off the ground and play with them with ease!
